Amanda North was a lifelong educator in Williamson County. Her legacy impacts the lives of many students throughout the County. Mrs. North began her teaching career in 1934 at Boxy Valley School. Her career was spent as both a teacher and principal in one room schools. She began teaching immediately following high school. She taught during the school year and went to college during the summer months until she graduated from Tennessee A & I State College. She was the last female African American principal at Thompson’s Station school, which was a grades 1-8 school for African American students. At the end of her career, she also taught Adult Education at night at Natchez High School. The school was opened for the 2023-24 school year.
